Madison Elementary - 3rd Grade
November 2018
During the fall semester of 2018, I did my Level III classroom field experience in a 3rd grade class at Madison Elementary. I spent approximately 80 hours in the classroom over the course of 3 weeks. During this experience I had the opportunity to plan and deliver lessons, work with students in small groups settings, lead morning number talks, and deliver guided reading sessions. This was a great experience for me. I learned a lot about how much work is involved in planning lessons. I also learned some valuable information about classroom management from the classroom teacher. She was organized and had very specific routines which helped provide structure for the students. In my previous classroom experiences, I didn't get to observe as many routines, but I had talked about them in my college courses. Actually seeing how these routines were implemented and how the teacher set them up was very helpful for me. One of the areas that I still need to work on is being flexible during lesson delivery. I plan the lesson and I tend to want to stick with it regardless of what is happening with the students. I know that I need to do more formative assessment during lesson delivery and then make adjustments based on what is actually happening with the students.
