I grew up in a small town in Nebraska. I have two older brothers and a younger sister. As a family we would attend Cornhusker football games on Saturdays. I thought I wanted to be a football player until I was in 7th grade when an injury forced me to take time off from the sport. Without football, my attention turned to basketball. I quickly fell in love with basketball. My older brothers and I would play for hours on our backyard court. My brothers usually won. I couldn't compete with their size and strength, but I knew my day would come.
In addition to growing up around sports, I grew up around teachers. My mom has been an elementary teacher for more than 20 years. She is an awesome teacher! Her former students reach out to her on a regular basis to thank her for having an impact on them. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher at an early age. I saw how hard my mom worked so I appreciate and understand how demanding the profession is, but I also know how rewarding it can be. I feel as though teaching and coaching will give me an opportunity to stay involved with what I love and impact students in the classroom. |
